2011 Dishcloth Swap Day

After a ton of work and much anticipation, 2011 Dishcloth Swap Day was a success!!!

A little background…After Potholder Swap 2011 ended earlier in the year, Eve and I had a little conversation where the idea of moderating our own swap got bounced around (as mentioned before, I have a swap problem – as does Eve). We thought it would be fun to do a swap similar to the potholder cloth swap but with dishcloths! Dishcloths! Brilliant! Dishcloths are equally cute, quick to make and functional as a potholders, but half the work. No need to make them double thick! Woohoo!

So we set up a group on Ravelry in the Spring – Annual Dishcloth Swap – and away our little group went!

Here are the basic rules of this swap:

  • Make 5 dishcloths from the same pattern but in 5 different colors;
  • Natural fibers only (cotton preferred);
  • Send the cloths with a SASE to our little PO Box by August 27th; and
  • Eve and I would get together and send everyone 5 different and fabulous dishcloths!

By midsummer, our little group on Ravelry was in full swing. The girls in our group ended up being lovely, chatty and super talented ladies. There was lots of post and pictures of dishcloths and other yarnie projects. Yarnie goodness I say!

By the time the due date rolled around our little PO Box received just over 50 packages of dishcloth yumminess!

Eve and I got together on the 1st of September at Swap Central (the all purpose room at my condo complex – Swap Central sounds so much better though) and got to opening packages and swapping everything out. IT WAS SO MUCH FUN! Every time a package got opened we filled the room with ohhhhhh’s and ahhhhhh’s and “I want one of these!” Not going to lie, there was a lot of dishcloth fondling going on.

We even got gifts from some of our swapees!

It was a long afternoon at Swap Central, but we got it all done!
Can you say exhausted?

Many thanks to helloyarn, maryse and njstacie for letting us use their potholder swap idea and format and for all of their help. We couldn’t have done it without you ladies!

Thanks for all of those who played along with us! I hope everyone totally enjoyed themselves and are currently enjoying their new dishcloths! (Keep your eyes open too – there’s another mini swap coming up around the corner….just sayin’!)

Yarnie hugs all around!!!

    It was a WONDERFUL swap, Michele! Thanks to you and Eve for organizing and implementing it! I’m so glad that I participated. I’m already doing dishcloth pattern research for next year’s swap!
